The Great Unknown (Letra)

Curso de Violão - Fórmula Violão

We were just kids at one time
Not a care, living free in this life
Who was there to catch us when we got knocked down?

People say you learn the hard way
But you need the good and the bad days
I’ve had my share of both and more

And I know I’ll work it out
But I’m terrified that I will let you down

And I’ve got to know, will I be good enough?
Will I be there to stand you up?
Will I do things the right way?
Will I spend my days afraid?

Will I be good enough?
Will I know when to call your bluff?
Can I learn to surrender?
I found my love in the great unknown

Moving forward, looking back
On what I built and all I had
In a heartbeat, it’s fallen down

And out of ashes comes a flame
To start again and give it a name
To build it up and let it go

And I know we’ll work it out
But I’m terrified that I will let you down

I won’t let go of you now
‘Cause I’m terrified that I will let you down

And I’ve got to know, will I be good enough?
Will I be there to stand you up?
Will I do things the right way?
Will I spend my days afraid?

Will I be good enough?
Will I know when to call your bluff?
Can I learn to surrender?
I found my love in the great unknown

No, we both hardly know what’s on the way
The great unknown, no, we both hardly know what’s on the way

Will I be good enough?
Will I know when to call your bluff?
Can I learn to surrender?
I found my love in the great unknown

Will I be good enough?
Will I be there to stand you up?
Will I do things the right way?
Will I spend my days afraid?

Will I be good enough?
Will I know when to call your bluff?
Can I learn to surrender?
I found my love in the great unknown

I found my love in the great unknown
I found my love, the great unknown

The Great Unknown (Letra)

Curso de Violão - Fórmula Violão

All lovers in the night
Look up and see the dawn
Reach out into the light
Before you travel on
All you have to do is smile for me
Lonely days will disappear

All lovers of the world
We thought we had it all
Reach out and touch someone
Across the great unknown

All you have to do is smile for me
Lonely nights will disappear

Promises are soon forgotten
Watch them falling one by one
Nothing stays the same forever
See the years go on and on they fly

We’ll wait for the day
Changing our ways
All over the world
Reach out for someone
All over the world

All you have to do is smile for me
Lonely nights will disappear
All of my life

Lovers of the world…

Words and music by Dar Williams

Once upon a time there was a nuclear family,
And we lived in a family time,
And we’d unite in a family way.
And off the ancient mountain,
They were splitting every nucleus.
They said ‘don’t be alarmed,
Just don’t try this at home.’
And they were the mystery that made the world run
And we had the power, ‘cause they were the sun
And we called them our heroes, and the future had come.
They said,’look at the light we’re giving you,
And the darkness we’re saving you from.’

Soon they were bringing it into our showroom,
And they’d unveil it with it’s title,
Bring your family, bring your family,
It’s the Great Unknown.
You can look, but you can’t fathom,
It’s the Great Unknown.

I’m no ordinary princess, I was born in the cold war,
And my team is the Rockets.
Go team, it’s a dangerous time.
And I dream of the moon and building lunar clone colonies.
And I build my peace with strength, that’s the best weapon you’ve
got.
Oh, I am the brainchild, I am the mortar,
With a plastic trophy and an eating disorder,
And vision as big as a great big wall,
And they tell me that I’ll move forward for the good of us all,
And the good of nuclear families all.

And they think I think I am important.
I know I never was, no I wasn’t.
No I never, and how could I be?
It’s the Great Unknown.
Now we’ve built it, now it’s ticking,
It’s the Great Unknown.

And I am your children, I am millions.
And I wanted to sell out, I wanted to try,
But you know the sky got too low, and the ocean got too high.
And I tried to take God into my own hands.
Am I too late? Is it over?
Have I sacrificed my family to the Great Unknown?
There’s a war between my conscience and the Great Unknown.

So I walked out into the Gamma fields
Out in Mercury, Nevada.
Where I stood in circle and that circle started to pray.
And the wind at the nuclear test sights floats the data at the radiation.
From the underground testing,
Cross the line, you’ll get arrested.
And we came from all over in a silent appeal
As the drill comes down like a presidential seal.
And we stand for the living, and we stand for the dead,
And we looked out to see your enemies,
And we see that you’re looking all at us instead.

And you think I am being disruptive?
But no I’m running home, I’m running,
‘Cause I’m trying to put the atom back together.
It’s the Great Unknown.
I’m just trying to put the atom back together.
It’s the Great Unknown.

The Great Unknown (Letra)

Curso de Violão - Fórmula Violão

They took old danny boy for a ride
From the arms of his bride to be
Threw him into the murky waters
By the dog biscuit factory
Quick dry the tears and stifle cheers
As he sinks just like a stone
Footprints set in sentimental cement
Now burden down his bones
Lest we forget
Here lies the great unknown

My my my delilah
Who’s the butcher that you harbour
Take the rich man to the cleaners
And the strong man to the barber
From her face down to her torso
Sort of gruesome only more so
Hooks and eyes, fingers and thumbs
Ladies and gentlemen here she comes
The great unknown

Where shall we sing
At a wedding or a wake
Whose name shall we cherish
And for whose sake

Now this year’s cannon fodder
Tell the future general’s jokes
They were keeping the home fires burning
As we slipped out for a smoke
Though the vip’s sang "wooden heart"
The band played "hearts of oak"

(chorus)

And here comes the day i shall perish all alone
Say here lies the great unknown

(sara evans/phil barnhart/james house)

Fire up the motor baby, i’m already packed
I’ll ride shotgun, navigate, throw the cooler in the back
Let’s try and get us lost
Anywhere you want to go
Come on show me the other side of the great unknown

Well i’ve never rocked the rockies
Never sinned in santa fe
I want to stand on a corner in winslow, arizona someday
And just take it easy
Drive me down a desert road

Come on show me the other side of the great unknown

Cause i’m tired of being careful
I’m sick of staying home
I just want to see a little of the great unknown
Take a right, take a left, i don’t really care

It doesn’t matter where we end up
Baby i can love you anywhere
I will be a waitress, you could work on cars
Find ourselves a koa and sleep underneath the stars
Just living and a loving

Cause i’m tired of being careful
I’m sick of staying home
I just want to see a little of the great unknown
Take a right, take a left, i don’t really care

Baby don’t say no
Come on and show me the other side of the great unknown
Show me the other side of the great unknown
